Business Ending Poverty

Doug was lent the book "A Billion Bootstraps: Microcredit, Barefoot Banking, and The Business Solution for Ending Poverty" by our friend John, who went to Uganda with us back in 2005. On the return flight Doug and John, being sharp business men, started to brainstorm on how to help the economy in the refugee camps we visited. I also read part of this book on microenterprise and found it to be a great way to really effect ending poverty.
Doug is preparing to leave for Nicaragua in July to research microenterprise opportunities. He will be traveling with a group from Common Ground who want to move to a small village in Nicaragua.
I encourage you to check out Kiva.com . You can loan money to people to help them start businesses so they can sustain their family and to infuse new money into their local economy. The site is extremely reputable (trust me Doug does his research). Whoever receives the loan pays it back and the money goes back into your account or you can loan it to someone else. It's a very simple and easy way to help. It's a great way to involve the kids too.

Are you going to the World Refugee event? Taking the kids? Also, you put "am" instead of "pm", but I was prepared to get up early! It sounds like something I'd like to join you for. I'll check the calendar...
